The Story
“In distant prehistory, there was an Old One simply now referred to as the First Wyrm. When the Old Ones were creating the first people, it is said the Wyrm wanted to guide their creation, and so created the Godserpents (the first 17 dragons) to act as leaders. However, when Life never arrived and Death obsconded from creation, the creatures began to go mad without their divine protectors to ward of Diabolic Oblivion; this is why he split his very essence among all creatures, so that his natural divinity may stave of the madness of absence. Now, if you'll turn your textbooks to page 5…”

Magic is divided into 7 types, unlike the 3 types of many D&D worlds (Arcane, Divine, Psionic). Additionally, Divine magic is divided into magic of Yin (Life) and Yang (Death). The types of magic, the most powerful creatures that embody them, and their related skills are as follows:
- Primal/Druidic - Magic that manipulates the natural world - Nature - Catdrakes (catfish dragons), Bloomwyrms (algae dragons), Syrpents (elemental dragons)
- Fey - Magic that gains power from raw emotion - Arcana - Moonstone Dragons, Dreamflare Dragons, fairy dragons
- Arcane - Magic that deals with astrology and creation - Arcana - Lunar Dragons, Solar Dragons, Bookwyrms (scroll dragons)
- Divine - magic that originates from the Holy Dyad - Religion - Hydras, Guard Drakes
- Yin (Life) - Angels (Neutral Alignments)
- Yang (Death) - Yugoloths (Neutral Alignments)
- Physical - Magic that deals with physics and metaphysics - Nature - Pitchblende Dragons, False Hydras , Cog Serpents (mechanical dragons)
- Diabolic - Corruptive magic wielded by El Diablo and other entities from Oblibion - Religion - Elder Brain Dragons, Chardalyn Dragons,
- Although most Diabolic magic in the world originates from El Diablo, he is not the only entity to use this power. Demonglass Dragons long ago made contact with an entity known as the Glassbaron, who supposedly befriended Life in Oblivion. Player characters who wish to use Glassbaron as a source of power use Sanity as their spellcasting ability, representing their ability to understand the power without losing themselves.
- Vital - Magic that affects or molds the body or soul of oneself or others - Medicine - Gem Dragons, Brawn Dragons, Hitwyrms (ambush drakes)
In mechanical terms, a spellcaster still only learns spells their class allows them; a spellcasting character simply picks a type of magic to determine the appearance of their spellcraft. Type of Magic can affect magic item usage in the following ways:
- Scrolls are classified by type, rather than class of magic (ex. Divine caster can use any Divine scrolls, even if it's not in their class’s list).
- It can be a prerequisite to use/attune to certain magic items.
